One mans bid to Pete a world record!

Doyen Pete Trainor reveals what the Pete Collective is all about!

My name is Peter. Most of you will have already worked that part out. When I'm not doing this nonsense I'm an IA / entrepreneur / conspirator / blogger living in London (UK) with my very tolerant wife Merry. Some of you might be thinking I'm some kind of strange sociopath. I'm not really. I just have a strange sense of humour & I get bored easily.

In 2004 I started this mission as a way of fulfiling a new years resolution to do at least one random, quirky or spontaneous thing per month in order to make my life an average of 12 times more exciting than it was last year. The website chronicles my quest to find 1,999 other men called Peter from around the world & try & gather them in one place to break a world record. Its not about starting a gang, or a cult or anything like that. Its just about meeting some interesting people. There's no plan or scheme, other than what's unfolding, which is what makes it so much fun.

In 2004 I discovered that there was a 'world record' for 'name gathering' which at the time was being held by 375 "Marias" in Spain. Since I'll never achieve immortality any other way I decided to have a stab at the record myself. Monkey see, monkey do!

In May 2005 and with little progress under my belt, my dream of breaking the world record was momentarily shattered when Dubai took to the stage and collected 1,500 men called Mohammed. Taking the record for the biggest same-name gathering ever. Deflated, but not beaten & in true British style... I just raised my bar a little & decided to battle on to that world record... and here I am. Collecting people called Peter in a hope that when I get enough speculative support I can get them all to meet me & bring the world record home to Britain. So my new project has become all a bit Mohammed as apposed to all a bit Maria.

To quote that little famous Mahatma Gandhi dude who wore the frocks (he should have been a Peter y'know - wise little man!)... to be the change you want to see in the world, you don't have to be loud. You don't have to be eloquent. You don't have to be elected. You don't even have to be particularly smart or well educated. You do, however, have to be committed... and I say "HELL YEH".
